The natural law of self-creation

Knowledge of constitution is the key for a holistic and integral health care, the true basis of any preventative medicine.
— Dr Vasant Lad (the grandfather of Ayurveda in the West)

As a practitioner I would often hear the request - “Can you just tell me what to eat?” or “How long will it take for me to be well?”. I would come to understand that the real hurdle in becoming balanced in mind and body was that we are not trained in how to think for ourselves, to judge the merits of the mass of products that hit the market, herbal or pharmaceutical, or even the merits of the practitioner serving us. We were trained to blindly follow along without an understanding of whether the protocol was working for us.

When I asked clients what made them feel good, a lot of times it was difficult for them to answer. There was a belief that I held the golden ticket to what they should do with their lives; promise clear direction and take the burden of being human off their shoulders. I know this for certain - there is no one else that can unfold your human story for you. We can educate, give ideas, make suggestions, but ultimately the decision is yours. The ultimate well-being is learning how to help yourself to prevent disease.

This prompted me to create DIY e-workbooks to fill the gap of preventative medicine that is not discussed enough in our western arena and to re-awaken the ability to use your imagination to recreate the kind of world you would like to live in. This is not about dealing with disease, it’s about focusing on thriving in all areas of your life.

  • Is the life you created working for you?

  • Do you have a personal philosophy of well-being?

  • Do you know how to adapt to changing circumstances?

  • Do you understand whether your mind and body is thriving with your choices?

  • Do you understand why your decisions don’t work?

  • Are you easily influenced by your friends or family directing your well-being?

  • Do the same issues keep rearing their heads?

This project takes the philosophy of Ayurveda and puts it in an urban context so you can take control of your environment with awareness. Retreats are essential and wonderful but they usually comprise of only a couple of weeks of the year. This website is devoted to the other 50 weeks of the year. The What part of this project is about creating awareness in every aspect of your life through the lens of Ayurveda and loving how you live, everyday.

The DIY e-workbooks provide the prompts to answer each of the questions in the above infographic. I highly encourage being as creative as you like and making it as individual as you like. This approach is one of awareness. It triggers you to live, think and perceive your world around you differently, one that is from your perspective. In order to know what works, you must act, and create your own well-being philosophy.

There are action prompts in each of the books. Try and do them. Ayurvedic knowledge is experiential. You will be in the process of collecting anecdotes and observing natural law at work. Each and every time a client took action with the work I prescribed, we both witnessed life take on magnificent form and deliver so much more than we expected. It has been said that the universe works under a law of attraction - how you think, so you become. I have observed that it is easier to simply do the work and watch your mind follow suit. A sustainable state of positivity can be created by your effort to be in balance.

So few people even consider helping themselves - in your curiosity you are amongst the few and the brave. It may be lonely and confusing at the beginning but I am here to guide you through the transition period, should you need. Check out the Support page for more information.

And in all, be well, I sincerely wish you the best that life can offer.
