White is considered a pure colour or sattvic, ie balancing to your spirit according to my school books. And it works with the minimalist aesthetic that's popular.
However, I have a different opinion.
Similar to excess fasting, or excess meditation, or being alone for too long - without a healthy earthiness attached (guru means "heavy"), puritanism can feel cold and stark. And Vata dosha can start to disperse energy in all sorts of directions.
I saw Swami Maya Tiwari speak here in Melbourne a while ago and she made an interesting point about immunity - it is important to have (at least) one foot "in this world" and avoid excess puritanism in order to be able to build the white blood cells to fight back.
