Every time in India. I seem to come here to purge the river ama (toxins) that have built up. You can't hide here - Mother India will pick you up by the scruff of your neck and shake you until you're clean. Some do Pancha Karma, me, apparently, well I prefer to have it beaten from me.
I have bled a very heavy menstrual river at the Vaidyagrama conference, then cleaned my bowels with a pretty violent diarrhea river at the beach, in the middle of it all a glaring eye infection, and now Niagara Falls from my nose in the form of a head cold....two days before I leave. India you're squeezing my fortitude on this one.
But I'll give you the last one, because I made a boo boo.
The eye infection I was sporting was fading. I got my Abhyanga, I got some herbs, I rested et voila!, things were on the improve. My agni, digestive fire, was STRONG. Maybe a little too strong as I would consume like a ravenous animal and if I didn't acknowledge the first signs of hunger, well then I was left to munch on the quickest thing I found.
Of which I usually found myself in a fortunate position. But then one fatal dinner, I ate the heaviest, oiliest butter paneer (fresh cheese) and I had severe indigestion during the night and felt the beginnings of an itchy throat. Oh Oh. My sign that it's gonna get worse.
And I want to make a point here - I found myself eating at family style, homely restaurants where I got to know the people, and they welcomed me heartily when I arrived. It wasn't until I ate the Paneer disaster in a heartless, tourist focused restaurant that I realised that I was innately eating at good vibe places, to build me up. The more I do this Ayurveda thing, the more I become convinced of the intention behind food more than the food itself.
Hence the famous chicken soup made by your mum idea. The magic ain't the chicken but your mama's (insert care person figure here) love.
Ok so I'm in deep now, and I need to ride this raft to safety. Immune boosters are good, got some Guduchi going, but more than that I picked up some Trikatu (Black Pepper, Indian Long Pepper, Ginger). It's usually too hot for me but I have a COLD - and to KNOCK the ama out I caused with a bad food decision I need to build up strength in my digestive fire to EAT it (pachana) away. My stomach felt cold and my appetite was low so this remedy will work out. Bowels are moving through ok and I will stop the Trikatu when my stools become loose/my appetite comes back.
It's common western practise to go just for the immune booster. So few look at building their digestive fire and elimination, but how will the toxins be broken down and pass through? On that note, I've also got the anu tailam ( nasya oil) clearing from the neck up. All systems a go!
So c'mon India, I don't have an orifice left that has not been tainted by your karmic cleanse. Let me get on the plane in peace.
